Youth Windsurfing

Windsurfing is a fantastic sport for young people to learn. With modern equipment, it is super easy to pick up and kids progress really quickly.ย  The benefits of spending time on the water and in the marine environment are huge – not only are they outside, active, and learning a new skill, they are also gaining an invaluable understanding of water safety.

Summer School Holiday Courses

Our youngest and smallest windsurfer to date - and blooming good too!We will also be offering week long courses in conjunction with Nelson Yacht Club’s School Holiday Junior Watersports Programme. Kids will have the opportunity to do a youth windsurfing week, a mixed watersports week or a youth sailing week. The cost is $340 for non-members and $290 for NYC club members.

The days run from 9am to 4pm with a break for lunch, Monday to Friday. All specialist equipment is provided, and your kids will leave tired and happy at the end of the day.

Dates for the 2019-20 season will be published later in the year.

Youth Windsurfing Group

We run term time blocks of our successful Junior Windsurf Club from 3.45-5.45pm each week on Mondays (Advanced) and Tuesdays (Improvers), Wednesdays (Intermediates). We can also look at putting on a group on Fridays if there is demand. If you can’t make the right afternoon work, then windsurfing is quite good at coping with mixed ability groups. We focus on skills appropriate to the conditions, and manouvres such as tacking and gybing or beachstart/waterstart can be learned & practised at different levels by different people. Someone coming off the back of one week might not work well with the advanced group, but one level either side is probably okay. Get in touch and we’ll it out!

Tuesday Club at Nelson WatersportsTechno 293

Nelson Watersports has been busy building a fleet of Techno 293 sailors at Nelson Yacht Club. This is a fun and exciting class to race in with events held all over the country and abroad. Not only is it a board that you can learn the basics on, it is also the ISAF Youth Windsurfing Class, and a board that helps progress through the levels quickly, right up to planing and carve gybing. We carry at least one of these boards as part of the school and normally have a new one in stock for sale. We can also get in the matching One-Design rigs in 5.8m – 8.5m sizes.

Schools Windsurfing

If you are keen on learning to windsurf, why not encourage your school to get involved? School and group sessions can be arranged during school hours. We can also use the Stand Up Paddleboards to enable us to cater for more people, or even do a mixed watersports day in conjunction with Nelson Yacht Club.
